This week we will be in Lesson 2 of the David Jeremiah Video Series: The Great Deceiver Who Seeks to Destroy. Trust everyone is enjoying this series on Prophecy and how to view it in out times.
Last week Jerry Day had a good question related to the Rapture. Generally, it had to do with 1 Thes. 4:16-18. Specifically if we are in heaven, why does the Bible say that those before us have "fallen asleep" which a euphemism for death. Verse 16 says "... and the dead in Christ shall rise first." Jerry's question was how can we be in the grave if we are with Christ at death.
Baptists (and many other denominations) hold that at death, the body is separated from the soul; the soul is immediately with Christ. The Body remains. Verse 16 of 1 Thes is dealing with the body which does remain in the grave until end times. It will be reunited with the soul.
It should be noted that there is an alternative teaching held by some Christians called "soul sleep". This theory maintains that body and soul remain in the grave until end times. I don't believe this theory is supportable from the Bible but have attached articles on both theories from Got Answers.org.
See you Wednesday at 6:30 at First Southern Baptist on West Second.
